Frequently Asked Questions

How can I join?

We are a free club, you don't need to become a member or join anything to take part in our events. If you want to participate in the meetups just come around, for the tournaments you will need to register beforehand.

How do I participate in the weekly meetups?

We currently have two different meetups happening each week:

  • Every Tuesday, in the city center at the Nordgebäude ZG (beneath N1090) at 6pm

  • Every Wednesday, in Garching in the Mathematics/Informatics Building (Boltzmannstraße 3) at 6 pm

What happens if I'm not a member of the TUM?

While we are an accredited club of the Technical University of Munich, we welcome everyone that wishes to join us. You don't have to be a student either, although we want to note that most of our members are students and you should therefore expect most people to be around the ages 18-28.

Where do events happen?

As we are an accredited club of the TUM most of our events, like the meetups and tournaments, happen on campus.

Most of the events outside of campus happen during the lecture-free period and are announced in the WhatsApp community.

How can I help?

As we are a student-run organization, the club can only exist if people volunteer to help. This can be helping with the meetups, organizing cool events like the tournaments, finding organizers, helping out with the website or the social media accounts. Please feel free to get in contact with an admin on the WhatsApp groups if you want to help out.

How can I stay informed about what is happening?

We highly recommend joining our WhatsApp community and checking out our post about guidance through the community to find the groups that best fit you. If you wish to not join us through WhatsApp we also have an Instagram account where announce different events.

Do I need to bring my own chess board and clock?

While we have a limited number of boards available, we recommend to bring your own board to ensure that everyone gets to play. We do not have any chess clocks at the club, so if you want to play timed games without an app, you will need to bring your own chess clock.
